GOV TV initially launched as a pilot scheme in Blackpool in conjunction with the sports and leisure department and their Sport Blackpool initiative in late 2010.
In less than 12 months, GOV TV successfully demonstrated its effectiveness to enable the local council to communicate more efficiently, drive a variety of call to actions for different local services in a fast and effective way, improve staff time efficiency when answering queries from members of the public, help increase patronage and revenues, save on paper wastage to aid the environment and allow the council reinvest previous communications spend in to other areas.
These successful trials have led the local council in Blackpool to expand its usage of GOV TV. It was recently used to promote the opening of a new, multi-million pound sports and leisure centre at Moor Park, as well as to promote other local facilities from the cultural services and libraries departments, NHS and the emergency services.
GOV TV has also attracted support from a number of major private sector organisations, including Tesco Cancer Research Race for Life and Sky Ride. GOV TV helped both promote their specific events in the Blackpool region, with Tesco Cancer Research Race for Life showing that its bespoke GOV TV campaign aided new participant registrations in the region increase by over 50% week on week following the promotion going live.
GOV TV plans to roll out its service across other regions throughout the UK starting in late 2011.
